There will be certified 10 hotels in Azerbaijan
Mr. Abulfaz Garayev, Minister of Youth, Sport and Tourism stated that 7-10 hotels will be certified in Azerbaijan in this year. According to his statement, certification of the hotels will be conducted under the changes and amendments to the act of tourism, which have been approved on these days by the President. Minister also informed that the instruction and plan of the arrangements on tourism development are in the process of preparation in the Ministry now. Since the above document is approved by the Cabinet of Ministers the certification and classification of hotels, motels and other holiday centers will be started. USA will assist Azerbaijan in tourism development
USA assigned an amount of $300 to Azerbaijan for tourism development in the country. The Agreement was signed in Baku. This Agreement specifies preparation of the plan on tourist industry expansion in the Transcaucasian republic. The draftsman of this plan will be determined jointly with trading and development agency (State Department of the USA) on the basis of tender with participation of American companies.
American experts who have studied the opportunities of tourism development in Azerbaijan note the big potential of the country in this area. There are 9 of 11 climatic zones in the territory of the republic; therefore the republic was a zone of health and rest of all-union importance in the USSR period. For the last 5 years a number of measures addressed on development of the tourism infrastructure. Particularly have been taken: a number of top-level hotels is built up, the recreation areas are established on the international level on the Absheron peninsula, Khudat-Yalama seashore, Sheki and Zagatal regions in the north of the country, Masalli and Lenkoran – in the south. Azerbaijan have available all conditions for tourism development.
Mr. Peter Burhard, Head OBSE Office in Baku, at the opening of two-day “Stable ecological tourism and system of the national parks in Azerbaijan” conference stated that Azerbaijan have beneficial conditions for tourism development. “Natural resources of Azerbaijan create favorable basis for ecological tourism development. But, we should try to avoid the damage to these opportunities by unchecked economic development”, said Mr.P.Burhard.
Mr. Huseyn Baghirov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, in his speech at the conference informed that for the last one and a half year the area of secured native zone of the territory of Azerbaijan has been increased from 4% to 7%, several national parks with great possibilities for ecological tourism development are created. Number of Tourists Who Visited Azerbaijan Has Been Increased 10 Times More
For the last two years a number of tourists who visited Azerbaijan has been increased 10 times more. Mr. Khanoglan Gulaliyev, representative of Main Tourism Department of the Ministry of Youth Sports and Tourism of Azerbaijan, stated that the common number of foreign citizens who visited Azerbaijan in 2003 comes to 1.066.299; 25.543 persons arrived by tourist visa. For comparison, in 2002 a number of foreign citizens totaled in 793.345, 2.294 of them are officially registered tourists.
However, to Mr. Kh. Gulaliyev’s opinion this statistics is drawn up on the basis of data provided by tourism agencies; and, if calculation under standards of the World Tourist Organization is done, this figures will considerably increase. “Businessmen who arrive to Azerbaijan for the purpose of business cooperation or participation on any forum should be registered in the “business tourism” column, as well as sportsmen who visit the Republic should be included in the “sports tourism” article”, emphasized the representative of the Ministry.
